As our ministry name infers, Jesus Christ is the whole focus of our lives. It may be that you have never heard of Jesus or have heard so many different things that some clarity would be helpful. We will be happy to help you discover the answer and clear up some basic but much needed details. We will do this by seeking answers directly from God through the testimony He has given in the Bible.
One of the most important aspects of who Jesus is can be found in the first chapter of the gospel of John. Verse 1 tells us “the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” As we continue to read about “the Word” we come to verse 14 which tells us that “the Word was made flesh.” Very simply, this is saying that God took on the form of humanity in the person Jesus Christ. John continues to talk about Jesus throughout his gospel, confirming the Word to be Jesus. Everything we know about Jesus is founded first and foremost on this fact: Jesus is God.
The importance of this fact is most revealed in His greatest purpose for taking on the form of humanity. John explains this in one of his letters, saying “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the World” (1John 3:8: 4:14 . All of humanity has fallen under condemnation because of sin (Rom 5:12 – 21). Jesus came to save us from our sin which separates us from God (Matt 1:21; Isa 59:2). It is through this redemption by Jesus that God demonstrates His love and restores that relationship with those who believe on Jesus (Rom 5:8; John 3:16; 2 Cor 5:17 – 19; Eph 2:8 – 16; 1 John 4:10).
Jesus performed this great act of love by living as any other human would, but without sin and dying as a perfect sacrifice to atone for our sin (Heb 3:14 – 18; 4:14 – 15; 9:28). He was born by the virgin Mary and had to grow up as a child into manhood (Matt 1:20 – 25; Luke 2:4 – 7, 21; 4:20). At the age of 30 he began His ministry, being confirmed by God at His baptism and by the multitudes of miricles which He performed (Luke 3:21 – 23; John 3:2; 5:36). At the end of his ministry he was wrongfully accused and put to death by crucifixion, even though no ruler could find him guilty (Matt 27:15 – 24 cf Luke 23:13 – 15). This death was God’s way of ensuring the sins of believers were paid for (Col 1:20).
Death was not the end of the story for Jesus, however. After His burial, He was brought back to life on the third day (1 Cor 15:4 – 8). He then spent 40 days with his followers, confirming Himself to be alive and providing further instruction (Acts 1:3). After this, He ascended into heaven, was seated at God the Father’s right hand, all power being given to Him (Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9; Eph 1:20 – 22; 1 Pet 3:22). All of this comes with a promise of His return followed by an eternity of peace (Matt 24:30 – 31; Acts 1:11; Rev 20:3 – 4).
This Jesus is the means by which we must be saved. Faith in Him is the way to enjoyment of eternity (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Rom 3:20 – 22; Gal 2:16; Eph 2: 8 – 9; 2 Tim 3:15; 1 John 5:1 – 4). We encourage you to get to know Him further by placing your faith in Him, reading the Word of God, and living a life which trusts in Him for everything.
